Ruins at Carnoch
LOCATION LAT/LONG 57.0113, -5.5145, NM 869 951, LR Map 33/40
Recorded history of this remote outpost dates back to the 1750s, and evidence of habitation is clear from the imprint of farmsteads which surround this impressive ruin. The townland was once an orderly landscape of hayfields and neat ridge and-furrow beds of corn, potatoes and oats. Despite the effects of the Clearances, a small community still eked out a living here well into the late nineteenth century, serviced by boat from Mallaig and Inverie.
