High above the pines between Glen More and Abernethy, the ever-popular Ryvoan lies on a route once used to run stolen cattle S to Glen Feshie and beyond. The Grants, a crofting family, lived here until they moved out permanently in 1877. The cottage was abandoned, and the traditional but and ben quickly became established as an open shelter. In his Cairngorm Diary of 1932, James Henderson describes his relief on arriving around 10pm, after walking with companions from Corrour Bothy over Ben Macdui and Cairn Gorm: ‘never was ‘home’ in the hills more appreciated!’
